Hagia Sophia: Istanbul's underground world in the light - What a tour guide saystranslated

New evidence is coming to light about the underground world beneath Hagia Sophia in Istanbul, as investigations reveal an extensive network of underground spaces and passages around the historic monument. As the tour guide in Istanbul Yiannis Kurtesoglou reported, the Turkish authorities have presented findings that speak of underground routes with a total length of about nine kilometers, which extend in various places around Hagia Sophia, to the area of Top Kapi and the Byzantine Hippodrome.
A similar underground route had been identified in the past, when investigations revealed a connection to an underground space near a local store. According to the tour guide, the promotion of these places is now linked to the increased tourist interest in the historical and Byzantine heritage of Constantinople.
An underground world beneath Istanbul Constantinople is built on an extensive network of underground structures, with cisterns, arcades and other remains from different historical periods.
