The 1st Sunday of Matthew, August 9, is important for our Orthodoxy, alongside the feast of St. Matthew the Apostle, who was chosen to complete the circle of the Twelve Apostles after the betrayal of Judas.

And the pious people of the parish of the beautiful and picturesque Prophet Ilias of Kastela, attended to officiate and celebrate this great milestone of our Orthodox faith. Following the 1st Sunday of Matthew, in our churches the evangelical passage about the healing of the demon-possessed young man is read, with a separate symbolism from Jesus, regarding sincere and unwavering faith, prayer and fasting, which are of decisive importance, so that the Christian can achieve the moral integrity of his soul.

The Gospel thus narrates the miracle of the healing of the moonless youth and highlights the power of faith, prayer and fasting.
