Maroneia Panteleimon: Saint George the Trophy Bearer remains a beacon of hopetranslated

November 4, 2026 · 1 min read

On Monday, November 2, 2026, His Eminence the Metropolitan of Maroneia and Komotini officiated during the Solemn Vespers Service at the Holy Church of Agios Georgios Hamilos, on the feast of the Repatriation of the holy relics of the Great Martyr George the Trophy Bearer. On the morning of the feast day, Tuesday, November 3, 2026, His Holiness officiated at the celebratory Church of Agios Georgios in Komotini

In his speech, he urged the faithful to imitate the unshakable faith and courage of Saint George, who "in the midst of persecution and suffering", kept faith as the apple of his eye and remains a beacon of hope and a model of holiness for every Christian who fights "the good fight of faith".

If, he reminded the faithful that on this day, a year ago, the city of Komotini and specifically the Holy Church of Agios Georgios Komotini received as the greatest blessing, a faithful copy of the Holy Icon of the Virgin of Odegitria from the Holy Monastery of Xenophon of Mount Athos, stressing that our Virgin Mary is here and provides us all with her "fairy tale", as eternal good Mother.
