Honor and Memory in Nea Kios for the genocide of the Greeks of Asia Minortranslated

Events for the National Remembrance Day of the Genocide of the Greeks of Asia Minor by the Turkish state were organized in Nea Kios, by the Region of Peloponnese and the Regional Unit of Argolis, Sunday, September 20, 2026. The program of events began with the performance of a memorial service at the Holy Church of "Theoman - Guide" of Nea Kios, by the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Argolis Mr. Nektarios and the Protopresbyter Fr. Demosthenes Gatsios.

This was followed by the laying of wreaths at the "Monument of Heroes" by the representatives of the Government, the Hellenic Parliament, the Region of Peloponnese and the Armed Forces.

A minute's silence was observed at the spot in memory of the glorious dead of the Nation and the official ceremony ended with the playing of the National Anthem.

After the official ceremony, the attendees had the opportunity to watch the dance department of the Cultural Association of Nea Kios, which presented traditional Asia Minor dances, honoring in this way the cultural heritage and roots of the area's refugees.
