✤ Le martyr français Saint Victor de Marseille (IIIe siècle après JC) ✤

Victor est né dans une famille noble de Marseille au IIIe siècle après JC. Il travaillait dans la fabrication d'armes. Il servit l'empereur avec courage et loyauté. Mais lorsque Maximien visita Marseille (vers l'an 288 après JC), au début de l'époque des persécutions contre les chrétiens, Victor ne voulut pas cacher sa foi et commença à encourager ses compagnons d'armes chrétiens à ne pas craindre ceux qui tuent les corps pour être considérés comme dignes des récompenses célestes. Jour et nuit, il se déplaçait de maison en maison, exhortant les croyants au combat de la foi et accompagnant les martyrs sur les lieux de leur supplice. Lui aussi fut arrêté et réveillé, enchaîné, devant l'Empereur. Tout en restant inébranlable face aux menaces et aux promesses trompeuses du tyran, il a fait honte à l’arrogance de l’idolâtrie, proclamant le Christ comme le seul vrai Dieu. L'Empereur le traîna dans les rues et le livra aux coups et aux insultes du peuple...

Интересно, как Виктор из благородной семьи, служивший в армии, вдруг начал ходить по домам и укреплять христиан перед казнями. Не побоялся даже перед самим Максимианом стоять. У нас в церкви на иконах такие святые всегда с мечом, теперь понимаю почему.

The part about Victor going house to house at night to strengthen the other Christians before their tortures really stuck with me. It’s one thing to stand firm when they drag you in front of the emperor, but quietly encouraging everyone else while the arrests are happening shows real courage. Интересно, Светлана, что в ростовской иконе он с крестом, без всякого оружия. У нас в Краснодаре в одном храме тоже его образ висит — там меч действительно лежит в стороне, как будто он его отложил навсегда. А ты в тот храм на Пушкинской часто заходишь или так, иногда?
