Russians, by decree of Putin, prepare to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the birth of St. Luke the Physiciantranslated

2027 is an anniversary year for Saint Luke the Physician, Archbishop of Simferoupolis in Crimea as it marks 150 years since his birth. On the occasion of this anniversary event, on July 9, 2026, the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin, signed Decree No. 477 "For the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Saint Luke of Crimea (B.F. Voino-Yasenetsky)".

The document sets out the timeline regarding the preparation and organization for the anniversary date. Specifically, the decree states:

"Taking into account the significant contribution of St. Luke of Crimea (B.F. Voino-Yasenetsky) to the preservation and development of spiritual and moral traditions, to the development of medicine and science, and in connection with the 150th anniversary of his birth in 2027, I order:

1. To hold events in 2027 dedicated to the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of St. Luke of Crimea (B.F. Voino-Yasenetsky).

2. The Government of the Russian Federation within three months:

a) to set up an organizing committee for the preparation and conduct of the celebration of the 150th anniversary of the birth of Saint...

Saint Luke saved so many people both as a doctor and as a bishop. I am glad that Russia is officially organizing events for its 150th anniversary. I hope that some new books or documentaries will come out that we can also see here.

In Samara, we also honor St. Luke, especially the doctors from our clinic. It’s good that the decree has been issued and there will be a whole program by 2027, maybe finally a new film or book will be translated. Otherwise, I only have the old edition of “I Loved Suffering” on my shelf.

I agree, Katerina, Saint Luke worked miracles both in the surgery and in his pastoral work. I hope new documentaries actually come out, because the old one I saw from Russians was very good. Have you read any of his specific books?
