تحتفل الكنيسة اليوم بتذكار القديس الشهيد أثيناجينيس وتلاميذه العشرة الشهيد أنطيوخس شقيق الشهيد أفلاطون الذي كان طبيباً واستشهد في أواخر القرن الثالث الميلادي. جاء أثيناجين من سبسطية في كابادوكيا وعاش في عهد دقلديانوس. إن ممارسة فضيلة التواضع العظيمة التي ميزته، وكذلك التعليم الواسع والفضائل الأخرى التي تفوق فيها على مواطنيه، ساهمت في انضمامه إلى رجال الدين القديسين، حتى توليه منصب الأسقف بيداشثوي.

وتميز كأسقف بمحبته لله والإنسان، وبعمله الخيري الكبير وغيرته التقية التي كان يعمل بها لنشر الإنجيل، فضلاً عن خدمة الرعاية الروحية والرفاهية والتقدم الاجتماعي لرعيته.
