The "Great Friday" of Agios Dimitrios in Thessalonikitranslated

A crowd of faithful Thessalonians came to honor the great soldier and athlete, the sleepless guard and patron of Thessaloniki, the holy great martyr of Christ Demetrius the Myroblytis during the Mass of Commendation at his Pilgrimage Church on the afternoon of Friday, October 23. The Holy Masses of Vespers and Holy Communion of the "Great Friday" of Saint Demetrius were presided over by His Holiness the Metropolitan of Thessaloniki Mr. Philotheos, while a multitude of clergy of the Metropolis participated.

Before the end of the Vespers Service, Panagiotaos preached the divine word to the crowded congregation. The Metropolitan Mr. Philotheos, visibly moved, referred to our Saint's great love for Christ, which made him not cower in the face of the horrible martyrdoms he suffered.

According to the standard, before the hymns, the Praises of the Holy Great Martyr were chanted and followed by the procession inside the Holy Church of Larnacos, which contains the graceful and honorable relics of the Patron Saint.
