The icon of Panagia Therapeutriatranslated

August 2, 2026 · 1 min read

The miraculous icon of Panagia Therapeutria dates back to 1740. In the 1960s, the icon was stolen. In the year 2003, the Metropolitan of Nea Krini and Kalamaria, Mr. Ioustinos, instructed the monk Agathonikos, currently the Bishop of Arusha and Central Tanzania, to recreate the icon. There are many testimonies about the appearance of the Virgin Mary in I.M. Dormition Theotokos Kladorrachis Florinis as well as her countless miracles.

I heard about her miracles from a friend who was at the monastery. Interestingly, it was stolen in the 60s and rebuilt exactly according to the order of Metropolitan Iustinos in 2003 by the monk Agathonikos, who is now a bishop in Africa. Is there still a photo of the old version from 1740?
