Proposal for inclusion of I.N. Panagia Parigoritissa Arta in UNESCOtranslated

The Association of Friends of the Holy Byzantine Church of Agia Theodora of Arta sends an official call to the Municipality of Artaia, the Municipal Council and the Ephorate of Antiquities of Arta, requesting their cooperation in promoting the inclusion of the Holy Church of Panagia Parigoritissa in the Tentative List of UNESCO. According to the Association's letter, registration in the Indicative List is the first and necessary step for the future declaration of the emblematic Byzantine monument as a World Heritage Site.

The Association points out that the Consolation gathers all the basic criteria of UNESCO, highlighting its architectural uniqueness, with the innovative support system of the central dome, as well as its special artistic value, which is reflected in the mosaic decoration and the sculptural elements of Western influences".

At the same time, it is proposed to examine a serial nomination (Serial Nomination) for the most important Byzantine monuments of Arta, with Parigoritissa forming the central core and flanked by the Church of Agia Theodora, Panagia of Blacherna and Agios Basilios.
