The Aetolian Damascene at the Silver Well of Thermostranslated

The mountain community of Argyro Pigadi of the Municipality of Thermo was visited on Saturday, August 8, 2026 by the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Aetolia and Acarnania, Mr. Damaskinos. His Eminence officiated at the procession of Orthros and presided over the high-priestly Divine Liturgy at the Holy Church of Agios Georgios, the New Martyr, from Ioannina. This is the only Church in Etoloakarnania that is dedicated to the Saint.

The construction of the Church began in the year 1841, just three years after the martyrdom of the Saint that occurred in the year 1838. It is a unique example of church architecture of the 19th century in the Prefecture of Etoloakarnania.

On the last Saturday of the fifteenth of August, before the feast of the Assumption of the Virgin, it has been established for years that the Divine Liturgy is celebrated in this Holy Church with the participation of all those who come from Argyros Pigadi, who return to their place during the summer season.
