General Priestly Assembly in the Holy Metropolis of Corfutranslated

A General Priestly Assembly was held on the morning of Thursday, October 22, 2026 at the Spiritual Center of the Holy Metropolis of Corfu, under the chairmanship of the Reverend Metropolitan of Corfu, Paxos and Diapontian Islands Mr. Nektarios. The meeting was also attended by the Most Reverend Metropolitan of Bresthenes Mr. Theoklitos. The speaker was the learned monk and author Fr. Arsenios Vliagoftis on the topic "Modern sects and destructive cults". The speaker pointed out that in our time there are many sects, i.e. organizations with a totalitarian structure, which aim at power over people, offending individual rights and social balance. These sects are based on the "mis-gospel" that man is god by himself or can become god by himself. The causes of the phenomenon are the bankruptcy of anthropocentric systems, the refutation of the hopes that science, technology, politics can solve every human problem, as well as the mystery of iniquity that acts in the world.
