August 14: The Prophet Micah is celebratedtranslated

Today, August 14, our Holy Church introduces us with fasting and spiritual preparation to the eve of the Dormition of the Virgin and the memory of the prophet Micah, the Martyr Marcellus of Apameia of Syria and the Neomartyr Simeon of Trebizond (†1653). Micaiah belonged to the tribe of Judah and was born in Morasthi, hence the nickname. He was, almost a contemporary of the prophet Isaiah, he is one of the so-called small prophets, due to the small length of his book.

The prophecy includes seven chapters. In the first three, he foretells the destruction of Samaria. In the next two he talks about the coming of the Messiah and in the last two he controls the people of Israel, who in order to be propitiated ask to make various sacrifices to God. Micaiah the Morasthite reminds him of the real duty he has to God, with the following question: "What does God ask of you, except to be just, merciful and willing to walk according to the commandments of the Lord your God?" (Micah 6, 8).

Hieromartyr Marcellus lived during the reign of Theodosius I, the Great. He came from Cyprus, where he received a state office, as he was entrusted with the administration of the island.
