September 25: Saint Euphrosyne is celebratedtranslated

Today, Thursday, September 25, our Holy Church honors the memory of Saint Euphrosyne, her father, Paphnutios, as well as the Martyr Paphnutios of Jerusalem. Saint Euphrosyne came from rich and pious parents, who obtained her with many difficulties and after many prayers to God. At the age of 12 she was orphaned by her mother, and devoted herself to prayer and the study of the Holy Scriptures, as well as to works of charity.

When her father tried to marry her off, she fled to a Christian family and then to a nunnery. She then went to a men's monastery disguised as a monk.

Finally, towards the end of her earthly life, she met her old father Paphnutius, who had also taken on the solitary form. Apparently, both prayerfully desired their meeting. Then, Saint Euphrosyne revealed her identity.
