Clashes in Albania: Violence in the forecourt of the Cathedral in Tirana - The Church demands respect for sacred spacestranslated

Report office ope.gr The situation in Albania remains unsettled as, centered on the capital Tirana, thousands of protesters have taken to the streets for more than a week demanding better conditions for higher education as well as clearly challenging political power. This fact has led to daily clashes between police and protesters with the tension and violence being transferred last night to the forecourt of the complex of the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Tirana.
The condemnation of the violence was immediate from the Church of Albania which demanded respect for the sacred sites. At the same time, she expresses her concern, underlining that holy places are never a field of conflict.
"The Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ is a holy place of prayer, a place where sacred services are held and the culture of peace is preached. The Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Albania once again calls for distancing from violence and finding space for dialogue," the statement concludes.
