The contribution of catechists and all those who contribute to the religious education of children and young people, as well as the importance of catechesis for the preservation and transmission of the Orthodox tradition, is highlighted in the circular of the Archbishop of America, Mr. Elpidophoros, for Sowing Sunday, October 11, 2026, "which our Holy Provincial Synod has designated as a day of honor for all the unworked catechists of our catechetical schools, but also for the rest of their partners in religious education", as noted by His Holiness. The Archbishop refers, among other things, to the new curriculum for catechetical grades K–12, which the Archdiocese presented at the General Clergy Assembly in Cleveland.
This initiative was one of the proposals of the previous Assembly, held in 2024 in San Diego, and aims to support clergy, catechists, parishes and parents, through educational material based on the Orthodox tradition and adapted to the needs of children today.
