Solemn Vespers of Saint Anne in Geraki Fields...translated

July 25, 2026 · 1 min read

On Friday, July 24, the eve of the Dormition of Saint Anne, Mother of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Rev. Our Metropolitan Mr. Andreas went to the homonymous church of the Geraki Parish, in the Gerakiani Lagada location, where he celebrated Vespers and blessed the offered breads. Our venerable Pastor, spoke appropriately to the crowded congregation, referred to the Life of Saint Anne and wished many and blessed years to the multitude of believers who came to the celebration. Among others, the present was given by the Mayor of Minoas Pediados, Mr. Vasilis Kegeroglou.

The vespers at St. Anne's little church in Geraki sounded lovely. I always appreciate when the bishop speaks on the saint's life like that, especially since my girls and I just read about St. Anne together last week. Nice that the mayor came too.

That’s nice you read about St. Anne with your girls last week. The bishop always picks out one or two details from her life that I hadn’t noticed before. Did the mayor stay for the whole service or just pop in for the blessing?

That’s wonderful you and your girls were reading about St. Anne so recently. The bishop really does bring her patience and long wait for a child to life in a way that sticks with you. Did any particular part of her story stand out to them this time?

The part about her years of barrenness and still trusting really hit home with my older son last time we read it together — he’s at that age where life feels slow sometimes. The bishop does make it feel so real, doesn’t he? Did your girls latch onto any one detail more than the rest?

Yes, the years of waiting and still trusting God really stay with you. My daughter mentioned the same thing last summer when we read it — she’s 14 now and said it made her think about her own prayers that feel unanswered. Did your son say anything else about it after?
