September 11: Saint Euphrosynos the cook is celebratedtranslated

Today the Church honors the memory of the Martyrs Demetrius the philosopher, his wife Evanthia and their son Dimitrianos and the Saints Theodora of Alexandria († 491), Euphrosyn the cook († 8th century) and Theodoulos. Saint Euphrosynos in manhood abandoned the world and entered a monastery, where he became a monk. Despised by his fellow monastics for his ignorance and simplicity, he accepted Christ's humility and served them in the ministry of the kitchen. And as he was always smothered in coals and ashes, everyone laughed at him and made fun of him, and he also received beatings from the most negligent who found an excuse for his silence and incompetence. But this blessed one with bravery of heart endured the humiliations and humiliations and sometimes bathed in sweat, sometimes panting and happy, he passed the stage of virtues in the crypt, escaping the attention of people.
