2 Σεπτεμβρίου: Εορτάζει ο Άγιος Μάμας

Σήμερα, 2 Σεπτεμβρίου, η Εκκλησία μας τιμά τη μνήμη του Οσίου Ιωάννου, Πατριάρχου Κωνσταντινουπόλεως (†595), ο οποίος διακρίθηκε για τη σπάνια εγκράτειά του και την τήρηση της νηστείας όχι μόνο από τις τροφές. Πράγμα που του έδωσε και την προσωνυμία Νηστευτής, καθώς και του αγίου Μεγαλομάρτυρος Μάμαντος του θαυματουργού, ο οποίος γεννήθηκε στην Παφλαγονία από γονείς χριστιανούς, οι οποίοι συνελήφθησαν και φυλακίστηκαν. Προτού πεθάνουν από τις διάφορες κακουχίες, η Ρουφίνα έφερε στη ζωή το Μάμα, ο οποίος από βρέφος βίωσε την ορφάνια.

Μία πλούσια χριστιανή γυναίκα ανέλαβε την ανατροφή του. Επειδή το βρέφος συνήθιζε να καλεί τη γυναίκα αυτή «μάμα», ονομάστηκε Μάμας. Σε ηλικία 15 χρονών συνελήφθη από ειδωλολάτρες και υποβλήθηκε σε βασανιστήρια, λόγω της γενναίας δράσης του.

Η εμπειρία όμως των βασάνων της φυλακής και η γνώση ότι ήταν απόγονος μαρτύρων του έδιναν θάρρος και δύναμη, για να αντέχει τις ταλαιπωρίες.

Τελικά, τον εκτέλεσαν με τρίαινα, παραδίδοντας έτσι το πνεύμα του στο δικαιοκρίτη Θεό. Όπως τονίζει το Συναξάρι: «Ἀκμαῖος ὢν Τριάδος εἰς πίστιν Μάμας, Ἀκμαῖς τριαίνης καρτερεῖ τετρωμένος».

Sfântul Mamas a rămas orfan de mic și totuși a ținut credința cu tărie, chiar și sub tortură. Mi-a rămas în minte cum l-au omorât cu tridentul acela, exact cum zice sinaxarul. Astăzi, la biserică, o să aprind o lumânare și pentru el și pentru părinții lui.
