For the first time, images salvaged from the Holocaust in Agios Nikolaos Asprangelon in 1943 are exhibited in pilgrimage The festive events for the Fifteenth of August in the Asprangelos of Zagori once again attracted interest for their diversity this year, as a result of the cooperation of the Municipality of Zagori with the Cultural Association of the village which undertakes and implements excellent initiatives and also cooperates with the local Parish.
Among the multitude of this year's events, one initiative that went under the radar was the exhibition for the first time in a pilgrimage of icons that were rescued from the burnt church of Agios Nikolaos in July 1943 by the Germans of the 1st Edelweiss Mountain Division in the Holocaust of the village.
At the Divine Liturgy held on the eve of the Dormition of the Virgin, these images, which had been kept for decades completely protected and away from the prying eyes of others, came to light and the faithful had the opportunity to see them and worship their grace for the first time.
