August 20: Saint Lucius the Deputy is celebratedtranslated

Today our Church honors the memory of Saint Luke. Saint Loukios came from Cyrene in Libya and held the office of deputy, representative of the people. Originally a pagan, he was moved by the martyrdom of Christians during the time of Diocletian and received Holy Baptism and Holy Anointing. In fact, realizing the gifts with which man is armed with the sanctifying acts of the Church, he also helped the prefect Dignianos to find the true way of salvation. Both later came to Cyprus, where they worked to spread the Gospel and were eventually martyred by beheading.
