International Scientific Conference of the Ecumenical Patriarchate, titled: "The Holy and Great Synod of the Orthodox Church (2016-2026): Assessment and Prospects," takes place in Paris from 5 to 8 October 2026, presence of the Most Holy Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomaios. The first day of the Conference included the presentation of the Most Reverend Metropolitan Demetrios and Almury Alkio Ignatios, with the theme "Serving the Non-Orthodox Unity": The Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomaios as President of the Holy and Great Synod of Crete.
The Metropolitan Alkio Ignatios referred to the history of the Great Synod of 2016 in Crete and the pre-Synodal consultations, the preceding decades, which prepared the ground for its realization, which became a basic priority of the Patriarchate of Bartholomaios. He also mentioned his participation in the two last Pre-Synodal Non-Orthodox Consultations (2009, 2015), as well as his predecessor, the late Archbishop Christodoulos (1986). Thus, he demonstrated that "the Holy and Great Synod was not the work of a man or a single Church," while highlighted the decisive role of the Ecumenical Patriarch in this matter....
