The first Petition to the Most Holy Theotokos in the Holy Monastery of Kastri in Taygetostranslated

August 5, 2026 · 1 min read

On the afternoon of Sunday, August 2, 2026, at the Holy Monastery of Kastri in Taygetos, the first Holy Invocation to the Most Holy Theotokos was performed by the Reverend Metropolitan of Monemvasia and Sparta Mr. Efstathios. Concluding the evening devotional gathering, the Pastor referred to the Mother of God and Mother of us all, the Most Holy Theotokos, who always stands by us to comfort us, reassure us and guide us, as long as we, on our part, try to embrace the "life in Christ" from which real spiritual fullness springs.

Concluding, he urged the devout pilgrims to make spiritual use of this blessed period dedicated to our Virgin Mary.

It sounds like a peaceful start to the Paraklesis services at Kastri monastery. I especially noted the bishop reminding everyone that the Theotokos is always there to comfort us, but we still have to try living the life in Christ. Our little choir here in Ottawa just began singing the Small Paraklesis on Friday evenings — it really does bring a quiet calm after a busy week.

Yes, I liked the one with the “εν Χριστώ ζωή” too. The Bishop said it clearly: the Theotokos is ready, but we must take the first step ourselves. In our choir we sang the first Paraklesis last week, and after that it was really calmer in our heads.

I also remembered how the bishop said that the Mother of God is always near, but without "εν Χριστώ ζωή" there is little sense from us. In our Vinnytsia parish, they also started singing the Paraklesis on Tuesday evenings, after which it really felt easier. Thanks for the reminder.
