The missionary Fr. Evangelos Papanikolaou in Ligourio Argolida for "Kapodistrias the Great"translated

An event of memory and honor for Ioannis Kapodistrias, the first Governor of Greece, took place on Monday, September 28, 2026, in the crowded spiritual center of the Holy Church of Agios Vasilios. After the celebration of Vespers in the church, Trisagio was held in memory of Ioannis Kapodistrias, on the occasion of the completion of 195 years since his murder, on September 27, 1831.

Afterwards, on the ground floor of the Church, in the Spiritual Center of Agios Vassiliou, a speech was held by the doctor and Missionary Fr. Evangelos Papanikolaou, on the subject of "Kapodistrias the Great".

Through his historical, spiritual and theological approach, Fr. Evangelos Papanikolaou referred to the personality, ethos and contribution of Ioannis Kapodistrias, highlighting the role he played in the process of establishing the modern Greek State.

The event was an opportunity for historical memory and reference to the personality of the first Governor of Greece, who was associated with the effort to organize and establish the newly established Greek state, but also with the path towards consolidating its independence.
