Delegation of experts from UNESCO to the Patriarch of Georgiatranslated

A delegation of experts from UNESCO and its advisory bodies: ICOMOS and ICCROM, at the Patriarchal Residence in Tbilisi where on Monday, October 12, 2026, he had a meeting with the Patriarch, Mr. Sio C'. The delegation is headed by Irena Kaketi, an expert in the European and North American programs of the World Heritage Center.

The main topic of the meeting was the ongoing large-scale restoration process at the Gelati Monastery Complex. The participants reviewed the completed and planned works on the monument, exchanged views and expressed their readiness for further cooperation in order to preserve the monastic complex in its original form.

As noted by foreign experts, their recommendations are being scrupulously implemented by the Provisional Commission for the Rehabilitation of Gelati. The experts thanked the Primate of the Georgian Church for his active participation in the restoration of Gelati. They also thanked the Vice-President of the Gelati Restoration Committee, Archimandrite Kirion, and the entire working group for their important work.
