Support of Greek-language education in Canada - Meeting of the Ministry of Education S. Zaharakis with the newly elected Archbishop Apostolostranslated

The further strengthening of Greek-language education in Canada was at the center of the meeting held by the Minister of Education, Religion and Sports, Sofia Zaharakis, with the newly elected Archbishop of Canada, Mr. Apostolos. After congratulating the Archbishop on his election, the Minister expressed to him the full support of the State in the new mission assigned to him by the Ecumenical Patriarchate for the spiritual progress of Hellenism in Canada and the preservation of its Greek Orthodox identity.
During the meeting, the common will was confirmed for the continuous support of the Greek Language Departments, with the aim of the new generations of Greeks in the diaspora keeping their language, history and cultural identity alive.
Sofia Zacharakis referred in particular to the Archbishop's ministry in the United States, where, for more than two decades, he served in parishes with a strong presence of the Greek diaspora in Massachusetts and New York, while he was Priestly Head of the historic Cathedral of St. Demetrius in Astoria, Director of the Cultural Center of the Holy Archdiocese of America, Chancellor of the Holy Metropolis...
