Saint Euphemia Honored in New Tiryntha, Argolidtranslated

A Great Panegyric Vespers was celebrated at the church dedicated to Saint Euphemia in the New Houses district of Tiryntha, Argolid, commemorating the miracle attributed to the saint. During the reign of Emperor Marcian and Empress Pulcheria, two volumes containing the council’s decree were compiled. These volumes contained the decisions of the Council of Chalcedon (451 AD), which was a pivotal moment for both the Orthodox and Monophysite factions. To resolve the dispute between the two sides, it was decided to place both volumes inside the reliquary of Saint Euphemia, so that the saint would reveal which side was correct. Upon opening the reliquary, the heretical volume was found lying at the saint’s feet, while the Orthodox volume rested upon her chest.
The church, packed with worshippers, celebrates the feast twice annually, drawing large crowds from Nafplio and surrounding areas. Following the Vespers, the traditional procession of the sacred icon took place around the church of Saint Euphemia.
After the service, the priest in charge of the Church of the Panagia of New Tiryntha, to which Saint Euphemia belongs, expressed gratitude to the clergy and faithful for honoring the saint through their presence.
