I remember my uncle chose cremation back in the 90s and the priest still did the full funeral service at the church first. Seems like the Church has been bending on this for a while already. Interesting to hear Kyriakou say it so plainly.

My aunt did the same thing in '98 here in Pittsburgh — full church service, then straight to the crematorium. The priest didn't make a fuss about it. I wonder if it's more a matter of local bishops quietly allowing it than any big official shift.

My uncle did the same in Toronto around '92 — full Trisagion at the church, then off to the crematorium with no objections from our priest. It does feel like it's been quietly accepted in a lot of parishes for years, even if the official statements lag behind.

My uncle in Chicago did something similar back in the late 90s—Trisagion at our parish, then straight to the crematorium. Our priest didn’t make a fuss either. Interesting how it’s been happening on the ground long before the statements caught up.
