The maintenance of the frescoes in the Monastery of Apostolos Varnavas has been completedtranslated

The conservation works of the frescoes and the elaborate wood-carved iconostasis of the historic Monastery of the Apostle Barnabas in Engomi Famagusta have been completed. According to a recent post by the Greek Cypriot head of the Bi-Communal Technical Committee for Cultural Heritage, Sotos Ktoris, the maintenance and waterproofing of the roof has also been completed, with the aim of protecting the monument from moisture and deterioration.
As he notes, the murals were created at the beginning of the 20th century by the three monk brothers Chariton, Stefanos and Barnabas, originally from Afania. They depict performances from church tradition regarding the finding of the relics of the Apostle Barnabas and its connection with the recognition of the autocephaly of the Church of Cyprus.
The project was co-financed by the European Union and implemented under the supervision of UNDP.
