Paralimni: 121 candles were lit in memory of the victims of the "Helios" plane tragedytranslated

One hundred and twenty one candles for the victims of the plane tragedy were lit on the evening of Saturday, August 8, 2026, in the square of Agios Georgios in Paralimni. 21 years after the tragic August 2005, which plunged Cyprus into mourning, with the fall of the Boeing 737-31S of the "Helios" airline company on the mountainside of Grammatikou Attica, dragging to death 121 innocent souls, 12 of them from Paralimni, their relatives took this initiative.
It was preceded by the celebration of the Trisagio by the Metropolitan of Constantia Basilios, in the presence of the Bishop of Mesaoria Grigorios, the Mayor of Paralimni-Deryneia and relatives of the victims.
On Sunday, August 9, at the Metropolitan Church of Agios Georgios in Paralimni, the twenty-first memorial service for the victims of the air tragedy of August 14, 2005 was held, presided over by His Holiness Mr. Vassiliou. Trisayas and laying of wreaths followed at the Paralimni Cemetery.
