New documentary portrays heart of Taizé community through the eyes of young people

Kathy Kuczka, producer and director of the documentary “Taizé: A Pilgrimage of Trust,” reflects on what sparked her creative idea, and how the authenticity of nine young people gives the film a sense of hope.

When did you first get the idea to produce this engaging documentary?

Kuczka: As a liturgical musician, I have been singing the songs of Taizé my entire life. When I was teaching English in Italy in 2022, I made my first visit to Taizé--at a time when I was looking to expand my production skills. When I began to do more research on the history of Taizé and the vision of Taizé 's founder, Brother Roger, the spark inside me was lit. I knew I had to tell the story of this community in a fresh new way.

Why did you choose a documentary format instead of a fictional film?

Kuczka: I chose a documentary because Taizé is a place that really needs to be experienced…
