At the beginning of September, in the Republic of Kalmykia, as part of the celebrations dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the Appearance of Christ the Savior in Elista, a strategic session “The role of pilgrimage and cultural and educational tourism in strengthening the unity of Russia” was held. With the blessing of Metropolitan Theodosius of Samara and Novokuybyshevsk, the abbess of the Intercession Alexander-Chagrinsky convent of the Samara diocese, Abbess Mikhail (Solodukhina), took part in the large-scale forum. The work of the session was headed by the Chairman of the Commission of the Russian Orthodox Church for the development of pilgrimages and the bringing of shrines, Metropolitan Matthew of Pskov and Porkhov. In his speech, Bishop Matthew dwelt in detail on the key areas of the Commission’s work, interregional cooperation and issues of spiritual and moral education of young people, in particular, through the diocesan project “StartupSpirit”.

Particular attention in the report of the Chairman of the Commission was paid to the creation of pilgrimage centers for spiritual and psychological rehabilitation for participants in a special military operation and members of their families. Based on the successful experience of the first such center at the Pskov-Pechersky Monastery, a decision was made to scale the project at the church-wide level.…
