La naissance de saint Jean-Baptiste a été célébrée selon le calendrier non révisé dans l'évêché de Bessarabie du Sud. A cette occasion, Mgr Veniamin a présidé la Sainte Divine Liturgie dans la paroisse de Căuşeni, République de Moldavie.

Son Eminence a souligné la foi inébranlable des justes Zacharie et Elisabeth, les parents de saint Jean-Baptiste, montrant qu'ils restent un modèle pour les familles chrétiennes : « De leur expérience, nous voyons que Dieu récompense la foi, la patience et la fermeté de ceux qui lui restent fidèles jusqu'à la fin ».

"Bien qu'ils soient âgés et n'aient pas d'enfants, ils n'ont pas perdu espoir, mais ont persévéré dans la prière, servant Dieu et demandant constamment sa miséricorde et sa grâce", a déclaré l'évêque de Bessarabie du Sud.

Le hiérarque a exhorté les fidèles à suivre l'exemple des parents de saint Jean-Baptiste : "Lorsque nous traversons des souffrances, des privations ou diverses épreuves de la vie, ne cessons jamais d'invoquer sur nous la miséricorde et la grâce de Dieu".

The part about Zachariah and Elizabeth never losing hope even in old age really struck me. My own mother prayed for years before my brother finally came along, and she always said the same thing — God rewards those who stay faithful. It makes you think twice before giving up during the hard stretches.
