On August 29, Metropolitan Longin consecrated the Museum of the History of the Simbirsk Diocese, which opened on the territory of the Spassky Convent. Abbess Sergia (Votrina) spoke about how the museum collection was assembled and why it must be seen with your own eyes.

– Mother Sergia, how did you come up with the idea of opening a museum?

– The history of Simbirsk dates back to 1648. Simultaneously with the city, and perhaps a little earlier, the Spassky Convent was founded, the staff of which had already been increased to 100 nuns by 1663. Now the monastery is being revived. And it is no coincidence that a diocesan museum was opened on its territory, the exhibits of which provide an opportunity to learn about little-known pages of the history of Orthodoxy in the Simbirsk land. With the help of employees of the State Archives of the Ulyanovsk Region, we began to learn more about the history of the monastery and the diocese. We have been preparing for the opening of the museum for about five years, looking for information, announcing a collection of exhibits, and now we are very glad that the museum introduces visitors to the history of not only the Spassky Monastery, but also the Simbirsk Metropolis as a whole, because these are two inextricable threads.
