It's nice that the Perm Metropolis celebrated the festival on Sobornaya Square. In our choir we also sang for Family Day last year, which was really cozy.

In our town in Hajnówka, there are always a lot of families with children on such a holiday, and last year after mass we baked bread together in the square. It's good that in Perm they also do it on Soborna.

Our parish in Denver does the same after liturgy — families stick around, kids run around the lawn, and someone always brings cookies or kolaches to share. That big apple pie sounds like it fed half the square; did your wife bake it in one of those big sheet pans? Nice to hear it felt homey in Perm too.

Yes, Paula, that short hike after mass is a great idea, especially in summer. Here in Seville we usually take the children to María Luisa park to walk for a while and have a snack, although Javier's apple pie would be gone in two minutes. In Barcelona do you always go to the same place or do you change depending on the season?

Yes, changing places according to the season is the best, Rubén. Here we usually go to Collserola park in summer because there is more shade and cool paths after mass, although with the heat the water runs out quickly. In Seville, does the María Luisa park have a lot of routes for children or is it more for quiet walks?

Our parish in Sydney does something similar after the Divine Liturgy — the kids tear around the churchyard while the rest of us sit on the benches with tea and whatever people brought. My daughter usually bakes the apple cake in a big roasting tin, not quite sheet-pan size, and it disappears fast. Do you find the kolaches go quicker than the cookies?
