On October 30, Russia celebrates the Day of Remembrance for Victims of Political Repression. On this day, the Russian Orthodox Church makes a special commemoration of all Orthodox Christians who were innocently killed by atheists or who were innocently imprisoned.
On this mournful date, Archbishop Nikanor of Yuzhno-Sakhalin and Kuril celebrated the Divine Liturgy and memorial service at the Cathedral of the Nativity of Christ in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.
At the end of the service, the archpastor addressed those present with a sermon.
Also, a funeral service was served at the memorial for victims of political repression near the former village of Verkhniy Armudan (Tymovsky district), where mass executions of Sakhalin residents took place. The service, with the blessing of the archpastor, was performed by the rector of the Church of the Intercession in the city of Alexandrovsk-Sakhalin, abbot Ambrose (Kovalev).
