On September 8, the fifth season of the series “Fauda” was released on Netflix after a three-year break. The thriller about fictional special agents collides with a reality that is difficult to translate into film language: the action of the new season takes place two years after October 7, 2023. By making the Hamas attack the centerpiece of the season, the writers of the Israeli TV hit failed to maintain their trademark impartiality. An Israeli series about Mistaarvim agents - special forces who conduct counter-terrorism operations undercover - was released in 2015 on the satellite TV channel Yes. It has since become the longest-running spy thriller in Israeli television history, as well as an international hit (after its release on Netflix).
The main figure of the project is actor and screenwriter Lior Raz, a former fighter in the Duvdevan counter-terrorism unit, who also spoke Arabic from childhood. Its co-author is journalist Avi Issacharov, who has covered Palestinian and Arab issues in Haaretz and The Times of Israel.
