The National Museum of the Romanian Peasant in Bucharest celebrated its 120th anniversary on Monday. On the occasion of the anniversary, the institution announced the organization of the project "Experimenting with the past. 120 years of heritage and reinvention".

In a message published on the official Facebook page, the representatives of the museum emphasized that the event is an opportunity to reflect on the role of cultural heritage in contemporary society.

"Anniversaries invite us to look back, but also forward. We believe that the past is not just a legacy that we preserve, but a resource for the present and the future. Cultural heritage gains meaning when it is researched, reinterpreted and shared further."

The anniversary program will include conferences, workshops, activities dedicated to the museum's archive, a concert, the creation of an anniversary calendar and video materials dedicated to the people and objects that have defined the institution's history.

Through this approach, the organizers aim to bring the museum's heritage and its role in preserving the Romanian cultural identity to the public's attention.

Felicitari pentru 120 de ani! I liked it when you said that the past has passed, that it is a resource for the future - it is true, especially when I see these simple objects of the Șărani au resistat so much time. Oare la atelier o să showați și din arhiva cu vechi fotografii?

Thank you, Andriy, it's nice that the phrase about the past as a resource caught on. I also have an old embroidered tablecloth at home from my grandmother, who has survived everything in the world. At those workshops, old photos from the archive will definitely be shown, especially from the first years of the museum - maybe even those with peasants in everyday life. And where are you from, why are you so interested?

Yes, that phrase about the past as a resource resonated with me. We also have many such tablecloths lying around our houses in the Lviv Region, my wife has been keeping one from her mother since the 50s. Are you planning to go to those workshops? It would be interesting to hear how they will work with old photos there.

Yes, Andrei, those simple things from the house - spoons, towels, axes - really last longer than anything else. I have an old scythe from my grandfather at home, from Poltava, and it is still sharp. As for the photos, I wonder if they will show those from 1906-1910, where you can see how the peasants brought exhibits. Where are you from, if not a secret?

Yes, Sergey, those old things from the house are really the most durable - I also have my grandfather's ax, from Poltava, and it will still chop, even though the handle has already been changed three times. It would be interesting to see those early photos of 1906–1910, where the peasants are carrying the exhibits in carts. And you often go fishing with that scythe in your hands, or what?
