Museum of the History of the Simbirsk Diocese: the light of surviving shrinestranslated

A museum of the history of the Simbirsk diocese has opened in Ulyanovsk. For our region, this is a unique event, because we have never had spaces dedicated to the history of Orthodoxy.
The museum is located on the territory of the Spassky Convent in the very center of Ulyanovsk. Museum director Oleg Kulishov said that the idea of creating an exhibition had been in the air for a long time. Archpriest Alexy Skala (+2012) also wanted to open a similar space in our city. He collected antiques for a future exhibition, but during his lifetime, unfortunately, this project was not realized.
Much later, in 2024, a museum of spiritual literature was opened on the territory of the Spassky Monastery. Then the nuns turned to parishioners and city residents with a request to bring preserved ancient books. The initiative received a huge response: the townspeople began to donate not only rare publications to the monastery, but also unique icons, crosses and other family heirlooms. It became obvious that the scope of the previous exhibition had become small and the region needed a new large museum. It took almost two years to implement this large-scale idea.
