Jubilee moment at the Cathedral of Timișoara: St. Joseph the New from Partoș, archpastor during the Ottoman occupationtranslated

September 16, 2026 · 1 min read

The Metropolitan Cathedral of Timișoara honors its patron in a jubilee moment, marked between 14-16 September 2026 through liturgical and cultural events: this year marks the 90th anniversary of the start of construction of the cathedral, 80 years since its consecration and 70 years since the local proclamation of the canonization of St. Joseph the New from Partoș.

The liturgical program began on Monday, with the Vespers service combined with the Litany, officiated by the Most Reverend Father Paisie Lugojanul, Vicar Bishop of the Archdiocese of Timișoara. Father Archpope Zaharia Pereș evoked some of the most important moments of the saint's life and spiritual work, then the program continued with a procession through the city with the relics of St. Jer. Joseph the New from Partoș.

The pilgrims then participated in the Vigil service, the Matins and the Holy Liturgy at night, where the liturgical responses were given by the "Epiphany" Male Choir, conducted by Prof. Florin-Nicolae Şincari. The liturgical program continued with the Akathist of St. Joseph the New from Partoș and the Mystery of Sfântului Maslu.
