Moment of ecclesial responsibility: PS Ioan Casian at the Canadian Bishops' Congresstranslated

"It is not just about an administrative meeting or the presentation of activity reports, but about a moment of ecclesial responsibility, in which we try to discern together the will of God for the life of the Church and for the communities in which we serve", said the Most Reverend Father Ioan Casian at the Congress of the Canadian Episcopate.

The hierarch said that the event represents a moment of conclusion, evaluation and shaping of the mission for the future.

"The verse chosen as the theme of our reflection - If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; old things have passed away, behold, all things have become new (II Corinthians) - expresses the essence of the Christian life", His Eminence added.

"The apostle Paul is not talking about a single change of behavior or an external reform, but about an ontological transformation of man through the encounter with the crucified and risen Christ."

Prayers and lectures The event began on Friday evening, with a conference held at the Romanian Orthodox Cathedral in Saint-Hubert by Bishop Siluan of Italy together with Fr. Prof. Vasile Mihoc from the Faculty of Orthodox Theology in Sibiu, in the presence of Bishop Ioan Casian of Canada.…

Thank you for this article. The verse from 2 Corinthians and the idea of an “ontological transformation” rather than just a change in behavior got me thinking. I hope that the conference really helped Canadian communities get a fresh start for the coming year.
