Metropolitan Ioan of Banat received the title of Honorary Citizen of the Municipality of Timișoara on Monday. In the Laudatio speech delivered on this occasion, the academician Ioan Păun Otiman described the hierarch as "a true spiritual father of the city".

The award took place during the festive meeting of the City Council organized on the occasion of Timișoara Day at the Banatul Philharmonic. Academician Ioan Păun Otiman presented the main milestones of the life and ministry of the Metropolitan of Banat, from his formation to the activity carried out at the head of the Archdiocese of Timisoara and the Metropolis of Banat.

"The granting of the title of Honorary Citizen to His Eminence represents a natural recognition of a settled life, lived with humility, dedication and Christian love, in the service of fellow men, the Church, our city and its Christian and national values."

"His Eminence became more than a religious leader of Timișoara. In a multicultural, multi-ethnic and multi-confessional city like Timișoara, Father Metropolitan Ioan cultivated these values through dialogue, openness and mutual respect", added the acad. Ioan Paun Otiman.
