It's good that Metropolitan Makarij himself went to the native village of Ioan Vishenskogo, and not just to Lviv. Prepodobnij Íoan buv cholovík z charakterom, ne lyubiv pustóiї krasi, tomu j píšov na Afon. Cíkavo, či zgaduvali na míscí, yak vín pisav proti uníї.

Yes, going to his actual home village makes it feel more real. I wonder if they read any of his sharp words against the union out loud there — he really didn’t hold back.

Yes, standing in his home village does make those old writings hit different. I remember reading how he called the union a "spiritual plague" — pretty strong stuff, but he lived through it. Did they mention at the event whether any of his letters are still kept locally?

Yeah, that "spiritual plague" line always sticks with me too — he didn't mince words. They didn't mention any original letters being kept in the village during the talk, just that a few copies are in the local museum now. Have you read the one where he writes about the bishops selling out for power? It's pretty raw.
