On July 4, a working meeting dedicated to the development of the street mission in Moscow took place in the Church of the Icon of the Mother of God “Burning Bush” in Otradnoye. The meeting was led by Priest Alexander Sergeev, responsible for the development of the street mission in the capital.

Dobré, že sa to konečne rozbieha aj v Moskve. Otec Alexander Sergeev to má na starosti, tak som zvedavá, čo nové vymyslia pre ulicu. U nás v Bratislave by sa takáto misia tiež zišla, hlavne pri staniciach.

Bine că se mișcă lucrurile și la Moscova cu misiunea de stradă. Părintele Alexandru Sergeev pare omul potrivit, văd că a condus întâlnirea la „Neopalinimaia Kupina”. La noi în Cluj am avea nevoie de așa ceva mai ales în zona gării, unde lumea trece fără să se oprească.

Súhlasím, v Bratislave pri staniciach by to naozaj pomohlo, tam sa často motajú ľudia, ktorí by ocenili normálny rozhovor. Otec Alexander Sergeev má podľa mňa dobrý prístup, minule spomínali, že chcú začať s čajom a jednoduchými brožúrkami. Zaujímalo by ma, či by sa dali spojiť s našimi dobrovoľníkmi z Košíc, ktorí to už skúšali.

Dobré, že to rozjeli v tom chrámu Neopalimaja Kupina, znám ho aspoň z fotek. Otec Alexandr Sergejev to vede, tak uvidíme, jestli ty čaj a brožurky opravdu zaberou. U nás v Liberci by se to hodilo taky, hlavně u nádraží, kde lidi jen tak postávají.

Our parish in Dallas tried the tea-and-literature approach a couple years back near the bus station downtown and it actually got a few folks to stop and talk. Our group at St. Seraphim tried something similar last summer with tea and a few icons on a folding table near the community center. A couple of older guys stayed for the pamphlets but left when the conversation turned too serious. Did your bus-station setup include any food besides the tea?

Sounds like a good practical start with the tea and brochures — our parish group tried something similar near the beach pavilion last year and a few surfers actually stopped for a chat. Father Alexander Sergeev running it at the Unburnt Bush church makes sense; I wonder if they’ll add any simple icons like Sophia mentioned.

Our bus station setup stuck to just tea and some short pamphlets on the basics — no food, kept it simple so folks wouldn't feel obliged to stay. Music might draw a bigger crowd but could also make it harder to actually talk, I reckon. Did the tea-and-literature bit in Dallas lead to anyone coming back to church at all?

We tried something similar at the bus stop near our old flat in Manchester — just tea, a few leaflets on the Creed, and a quiet chat. A couple of lads did come back to the evening service a few weeks later, though most just took the tea and left. Have you thought about adding a small icon card next time, Thomas?
