Metropolitan Epifaniy leads Transfiguration Feast at Kyiv Cathedral

On August 6, the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, the community of the Transfiguration Cathedral in Kyiv celebrated its patronal feast with a Divine Liturgy presided over by Metropolitan Epifaniy of Kyiv and All Ukraine, Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine.

The feast commemorates the Gospel account in which Jesus Christ ascended a high mountain with three of His closest disciples and revealed His divine glory shortly before His Passion. The disciples saw the prophets Moses and Elijah speaking with Christ and heard a voice from the cloud proclaiming: “This is My beloved Son.”

Metropolitan Epifaniy was joined in the Divine Liturgy by Metropolitan Alexander of Pereiaslav and Vyshneve, Bishop Raphael of Makariv, clergy of the cathedral and the diocese, as well as visiting clergy.

During the Little Entrance, Metropolitan Epifaniy elevated Hegumen Vikentiy Kozak, Secretary of the Diocese, to the rank of Archimandrite.

Special prayers were offered during the service for Ukrainian soldiers, the country’s authorities and the Ukrainian people. Prayers were also offered for the repose of fallen defenders of Ukraine and civilians who have lost their lives.
