Dziś Kościół wspomina świętych bezemisyjnych lekarzy Kosmę i Damiana, męczennice Kyriaini i Julianę oraz świętego Dawida z Eubei.

Pochodzący z Azji lekarze Kosma i Damian wcześnie stracili ojca. Matka Teodota zapewniła im doskonałe wykształcenie i wychowanie chrześcijańskie.

Pielęgnując cnoty chrześcijańskie, poświęcili się pilnie studiom i praktyce lekarskiej. Swobodnie ofiarowywali swoją wiedzę medyczną, traktując chorych z miłością, współczuciem i szacunkiem, nigdy nie przyjmując zapłaty za swoje usługi. Z tego powodu hymnografia Kościoła honoruje ich jako Świętych Nienajemników („Anargyroi”), co odzwierciedla trwałe uznanie wiernych.

Święci zdobyli niezniszczalny skarb, pokładając całą nadzieję w Bogu. Mocno wierząc, że „darmo otrzymaliście, darmo dawajcie”, uzdrawiali wszystkich, nie zabiegając o bogactwo ani dobra ziemskie. Z radością nadal udzielają ludzkości błogosławieństw duchowych i fizycznych. Zgodnie z tradycją Kościoła uzdrawiali także zwierzęta, demonstrując miłującą Opatrzność Bożą i troskę o całe stworzenie.
