Μνήμη των Αγίων Ανμίσθων Ιατρών Κοσμά και Δαμιανούμετάφραση

Σήμερα η Εκκλησία τιμά τη μνήμη των Αγίων Ανεργότων Ιατρών Κοσμά και Δαμιανού, των γυναικών Μαρτύρων Κυριανής και Ιουλιανής και του Αγίου Δαβίδ του Ευβοϊκού.

Οι γιατροί Κοσμάς και Δαμιανός, που κατάγονταν από την Ασία, έχασαν τον πατέρα τους σε μικρή ηλικία. Η μητέρα τους, Θεοδότη, τους παρείχε τόσο άριστη μόρφωση όσο και χριστιανική ανατροφή.

Έχοντας καλλιεργήσει τις χριστιανικές αρετές, αφοσιώθηκαν επιμελώς στη μελέτη και την άσκηση της ιατρικής. Προσέφεραν ελεύθερα τις ιατρικές τους γνώσεις, αντιμετωπίζοντας τους αρρώστους με αγάπη, συμπόνια και σεβασμό, χωρίς ποτέ να δεχτούν πληρωμή για τις υπηρεσίες τους. Για το λόγο αυτό, η υμνογραφία της Εκκλησίας τους τιμά ως τους Αγίους Ανάργυρους («Ανάργυροι»), αντανακλώντας τη διαρκή αναγνώριση των πιστών.

Οι Άγιοι απέκτησαν έναν άφθαρτο θησαυρό εναποθέτοντας την ελπίδα τους ολοκληρωτικά στον Θεό. Πιστεύοντας ακράδαντα ότι «δωρεάν λάβατε· δωρεάν δώστε», έδωσαν θεραπεία σε όλους χωρίς να αναζητούν πλούτο ή επίγεια υπάρχοντα. Με χαρά συνεχίζουν να προσφέρουν τόσο πνευματικές όσο και σωματικές ευλογίες στην ανθρωπότητα. Σύμφωνα με την παράδοση της Εκκλησίας, θεράπευαν και ζώα, δείχνοντας τη στοργική πρόνοια και τη φροντίδα του Θεού για όλη τη δημιουργία.
