Bishop Benedict of Sălaj celebrated the Holy Liturgy on Monday in the Ip Parish in Sălaj, where he commemorated the 157 Romanians killed in the massacre of 1940. The hierarch emphasized that the meaning of a complicated moment in our lives means resurrection.
The Holy Liturgy was celebrated at the altar set up in the heroes' cemetery, erected near the collective grave of the martyrs.
His Eminence showed that, through the Cross of Christ, the suffering of the innocent can receive a meaning that goes beyond the evil committed and transforms it into a testimony of the Resurrection.
"The raising of the Cross brings with it new meanings to human suffering and evils that cause suffering to some to others. It is the sign of the Resurrection. The Cross that rises today, in the sense that what was then a heinous crime is transformed into martyrdom and into a pedagogical significance for us today, who are exceptional."
The Bishop of Sălaj emphasized that suffering without a deep meaning, beyond what is visible, means absurd.
