Languages unite us: European Day of Languagestranslated

The European Day of Languages is celebrated annually on 26 September and provides an opportunity to celebrate Europe's linguistic and cultural richness.

This year's theme of the day is: "Languages ​​unite us". The message emphasizes the role of languages ​​in building bridges between people and cultures, as well as the importance of linguistic diversity in social cohesion.

The day was established in 2001 by the Council of Europe and is supported by the European Commission. Over the years, it has become an opportunity for schools, cultural institutions and communities in Europe to organize activities dedicated to languages ​​and cultural diversity.

The European Union has 24 official languages, but a total of over 60 regional and minority languages ​​are spoken in Europe – apart from the migrants' mother tongues.

Learning a foreign language gives us an insight into the literature, history and culture of the people who speak it and can facilitate travel, study and work, as well as relationships between people and communities.

At the same time, the mother tongue remains an essential element of cultural identity and the transmission of a community's memory.
