A new edition of the Saint Elijah Fair will be organized at the National Museum of the Romanian Peasant in Bucharest, which will take place from Friday to Sunday.

The event will bring together craftsmen, artisans, antiquarians and artists from all over the country, offering the public the opportunity to discover the traditions and heritage of the Romanian village.

"The fair aims to promote the material and immaterial heritage of Romania, offering the public, especially those from the urban environment, the opportunity to discover, understand and appreciate the traditions, crafts and customs that define the cultural identity of the Romanian village", the representatives of the National Museum of the Romanian People sent in a post on Facebook.

As every year, the event will also have a charitable component. The organizers announced that they will continue to support "several schools, foundations, associations and organizations that carry out activities of a humanitarian nature, dedicated to children with disabilities and people from disadvantaged categories".

Visitors will be able to find numerous objects of folk art and the creations of craftsmen, as well as traditional products. The fair can be visited between 10:00 and 18:00, and the entrance is…

It’s good that schools and children with disabilities will be supported again, that’s right. I’m unlikely to see the fair this year, but the products of folk craftsmen are always interesting - especially wooden spoons and fabrics. The time from 10 to 18 is convenient, maybe one of our people will go.

It's good that they continue with humanitarian work for disabled children and schools, it's really useful. I would like to see those wooden spoons and fabrics that Oleg talks about, but I won't make it to Bucharest this time. If someone goes, please take a picture of some nice pottery so we can see.

Sounds like a good cause again this year. I like that they're still helping those schools and kids with disabilities – it's the kind of thing that actually matters. If anyone from the youth group goes, grab a photo of the pottery or those carved wooden spoons Oleg mentioned; I'd love to see what turns up.

I agree, that charity side is what keeps bringing me back each year. Last time I picked up a couple of those hand-painted icons for the girls’ rooms and they still hang by their beds. Anyone going Saturday, keep an eye out for the wool blankets too – they’re worth it.

Yeah, those hand-painted icons are special. I grabbed one last year from the old fellow who sets up near the entrance, and it’s still on our kitchen wall. Planning to swing by Saturday myself — any chance the wool blankets come in bigger sizes this time?

The icons are from the same lady from Maramureș who’s been coming for the last three years – her brushwork on the small ones is so neat. I grabbed a wool blanket last summer and it’s still my favourite thing to throw over the couch when it gets chilly. Are you going Saturday morning or later in the day?

Those icons are the real deal, aren’t they? The old man near the entrance always has the best ones. I picked up one of his smaller wool blankets last summer and it’s been perfect for our couch, but I’ll ask him about bigger sizes when I’m there Saturday too.

Yes, that humanitarian part really gives meaning to the whole event. I saw the spoons from Maramures last year, they are finely carved, but I didn't get to look closely at the jugs with that blue color. If you go this year, let us know how you feel live.
